She was the youngest of six siblings. She played many roles. She was a wonderful wife, a great mom, and nana. Marie graduated from Eagleville High School and West Kentucky Vocational College. After graduating, she worked at Boyles Brothers where she was an office manager. After the company relocated to another state, she decided to stay in Tennessee. During that time, she worked as an affiliate broker for Properties Unlimited and Century 21part time. Afterwards, she worked at Hall Davidson and Associates as an accountant, where she retired. Marie was married in holy matrimony to Vernon Lee Humes, and they were married 47 years. She loved her family, and she was devoted to them. She always looked forward to our yearly vacation trips to the beach. She was best known for her mac and cheese. At any event, everyone asks, "Where's Marie's mac and cheese?" Marie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Rockvale Original Church of God. She later joined East Castle Original Church of God where she served as a dynamic singer, choir member, Assistant Church Treasurer, Missionary Department Treasurer, Assistant Sunday School Secretary, and served on the Church Building Committee. She was a devoted Christian, and it showed in her daily walk. She let her light shine wherever she went. In 2012, she was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. She kept the faith every step of the way. He journey enabled her to provide a profound testament to others of God's grace and mercy. God placed a song on her heart after her journey titled, "What About Jesus?" Marie was preceded in death by her father , George Lester Sr.; mother, Alberta Lester Biggers (Jim); brother, James Lester; sisters: Cathy "Bell" Lester Hagans and Mary Mount. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Vernon Lee Humes; daughter, Tracee Humes; son, Vernon Lee Jr. (Tiffany) Humes; sister, Fannie Randolph; brother, George (Lily) Lester; two granddaughters: Tya Humes and Lilee Humes; bonus grandson, Isaiah Merritt (the apples of her eyes), sisters-in-law and brothers-in -law: Carolyn Lester, David (Wendy) Humes, Bennie Humes, Sherry Humes, Lee (Marilyn) Humes, Henry Humes, and a host of nieces, nephews,cousins,church family, and friends. |
