Jesse Jones Jr. was born in Miami, Florida on October 30, 1949 to his late, Jesse Jones Sr. and Mattie Young Jones. He later moved to Pompano Beach, Florida and was educated in the Pompano (Broward County) Public School System.

After graduating from high school (Class of 1968), he attended trade school for about a year before he was drafted by the United States Military in 1970 during the Vietnam War. He would go on to spend the next 23 years serving in the United States Army at various stations in the US and overseas before retiring at the rank of First Sergeant. After a brief retirement Jesse was employed at the Bridgestone Tire Plant in Warren County, Tennessee until his health failed.

Jesse loved the Lord, his family and his friends. Due to his passion for grilling, he was known to many as a "Grill Master." He also had a real passion for playing cards (Pinochle), he loved music and his quick wit never failed to produce much laughter among friends and strangers. While his presence on earth will be truly missed, his love for life and family will live on in the hearts of many.

He leaves to cherish many memories his devoted wife of 31 years, Sonya Jones; son, Jestin Jones; his loving mother-in-law, Erma Whitaker; sisters-in-law, Carnice Price, Comellia Chesson, Margaline During, Marva Simmons and Wanda Whitaker; brothers-in-law, Surry Whitaker and Felton Simmons, all of North Carolina; nieces, Joyce .lames and Mary McCall; nephew, Alexander McCall, all of Florida; devoted friends of 50 years, Bennie and Stella Sanderfer of Huntsville, Alabama; other devoted friends include, Ms. Victoria Taylor of Atlanta, Georgia, Wayne (Kimberly) Riddick, Mark (Rebecca) Johnson and Rickey (Glenda) Carmichael all of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; also in recognition is the family of the late Elder Lucius and Mrs. Mamie Carter of Pompano Beach, Florida; and a host of relatives and friends worldwide.
