Obituary:
Jesse Lee James, age 85 went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 2020 following a brief illness. He was born to Joe C. James and Willie Lee Johnson James on August 8, 1934. He was a lifelong resident of Rutherford County.

At a young age, he accepted the Lord as his and joined Cherry Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Dillard Elementary School and graduated from Holloway High School Jesse obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Tennessee State University and a Master's Degree from Middle Tennessee State University both in the field of education. His passion and advocacy for education inspired several of his brothers and sisters and all of his children to obtain college degrees. Jesse encouraged everyone around him to get as much education as they could and to work hard to reach their goals.

Jesse taught for several school systems for over 35 years, but spent most of his career teaching special education for Rutherford County Schools. Jesse enjoyed teaching and loved his students. He often bragged on them and enjoyed seeing them thrive as adults. Even past retirement, he pursued opportunities to teach someone a new skill or discuss useful information.

Jesse's heart was for his family. Everyone who knew him knew the pride he had in his children. He loved to brag about their accomplishments.
Jesse also enjoyed just being with his children doing activities, discussing their lives, and having family dinners. He dearly loved his wife and took every opportunity to spend time with her. He liked to surprise her with small gifts and liked to sit and talk for hours. He also loved his extended family. Jesse was always happy at a family reunion or holiday get-togethers. He was so happy to spend time with brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. Jesse never met a stranger and often embraced friends as family.

Jesse is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 55 years, Ruth James; three children, Darrin James, Kevin (Marilyn) James and Teresa James Flores; five brothers; three sisters; three grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
