Mary Elizabeth Hicks Howse was born on June 8, 1931 to Stella Hicks in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on December 7,2019 after an extended illness.

Mary, or Mayas she was affectionately referred to by family, was a student of the Rutherford County School System and a graduate of Holloway High School. She lived her entire life in Murfreesboro.

On March 29, 1951, she married Charles Edward Howse and to that union two daughters were born, Gayle Elizabeth and Judy Carol. For many years, she worked alongside her husband Charles, at Star Cleaners. In later years, she worked and retired from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department. Her remaining years were spent devoted to her family.

She was our beloved Little Mama and she loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also cared for her mother and aunts when their health declined. Her love was displayed and felt in every meal she cooked, every pallet she made for sleepovers and every tear she dried. She was phenomenal. There could never and will never be another like her. To have been loved by her was to know a love that can only be surpassed by the love Christ has for us.

Mary Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Howse; mother, Stella Hicks; brother, Charles Hicks; great-grandson, Henry McAdoo.

She is survived by her daughters, Gayle (Allen) McAdoo and Judy Greene; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
