Miss JoAnn Smith, age 82 was born in Shelbyvile, Tennessee to the late Clyde and Mable Smith. She transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Friday, October 12, 2018 at The Waters of Shelbyville.

Miss JoAnn was a native of Bedford County Tennessee where she attended school. She worked for nineteen years at Bedford Hosiery until it closed. She also worked for Chalkline Fly's manufacturing and retired from Musgrave Pencil Company.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Bird Street Church of Christ in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Miss JoAnn would frequently visit Richmond Church of Christ for their Annual event the first Sunday in May, where she would help with the preparation of food.

She was a beloved mother, sister and aunt. She took on many of the family challenges with patience and grace especially caring for her brother Lloyd and the raising of her nieces and nephews. She was truly the monarch of the family and will be deeply missed.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Claydette Batts; brothers Roy Clyde, Wilbert, Lloyd, Vernon and Mitchell Smith; sisters, Mary Francis and Zell Smith; nieces, Demetra Marlin and Lisa Ann Palmer; and nephew, Dewayne Ingram.

JoAnn leaves to cherish her memories daughter, Claudia Batts of Shelbyville, Tennessee; grandsons, Anthony Batts and Brian McCroskey of Shelbyville, Tennessee; two great grandsons, Alex and Aden McCrosky; beloved sister, Joyce Smith of Shelbyville, Tennessee; brothers, Sam (Emma) Smith of Gary Indiana, Willie (Ruby) Smith of Chicago, Illinois and Jimmie Smith of Richlands, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
