Bernice Ruthine Young was born into time on March 4, 1948 in Milton, Tennessee to the late James and Hester Knox. She transitioned into eternity on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.

She received her education in the Rutherford and Cannon County School Systems, graduating as the first African American from Auburntown High School in 1966.

She accepted Christ at an early age at Bradley Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended until her health failed.

Bernice worked at Alvin C. York Medical Center for twenty-nine years on 8A as a Ward Clerk, retiring from there in 2010. She also worked for twenty-eight years at St. Thomas Rutherford in the Critical Care Unit as a Unit Secretary.

Bernice really enjoyed life, working, being around her family and work family. She was on a bowling league and took time out of her busy schedule to bowl on Thursday nights. She also loved watching television: her favorite shows being the Price is Right, Young and the Restless, Bold and the Beautiful and Family Feud. She was like a mother to so many and adopted the name of "Mama B."

She was preceded in death by husband, James Young; five brothers, Steve, Eugene, Donnie, Wiley, and Jim Henry Knox; two sisters, Linda Knox and Melba "Lynne" Floyd; sisters- in-law, Madie Knox, Doris Richardson and Robbie Henry; and stepdaughter, Annsianne Burdick.

She leaves to mourn: a devoted daughter, Tiffany (Zack) Bragg; two devoted sons, Torre Knox and Terrance Young; three stepdaughters, Vicky (Charles) McCullum, Shelia Martin both from Chicago, Illinois and Susan Fuller of Indianapolis, Indiana; one stepson, Antonio Falls of Nashville, Tennessee; two brothers, Anthony Knox and Bobby (Mary) Knox; one devoted brother-in-law, Ronnie Floyd; one half sister, Virginia Richardson; one brother-in-law, Vernal Young; sisters-in-law, Cornelia Whyte, Lucille (Freddie) Batey and Shirley Young; grandchildren, Torryn and Jalen Windrow, Josiah and Jonathan Bragg, M'Torria Knox, Kristopher Johns, McKinley Corder, Kelsey (Blake) Poteat, Keegan and Giovonni Young,Jacquita (Breonus, Sr.) Mitchell, Akia and Mya Haynes; three great grandchildren, Kennedy Laye, Emerson Corder and Breelyn Poteat; devoted nieces, Genee' Knox, Ronita and Ella Floyd; devoted goddaughter, Tonya Scales (Deric) Haynes; devoted godson, Marcus Nelson; a host of other nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends.

Auntie In Heaven
Although you sleep in Heaven now, you're not that far away My heart is foil of memories and you're with me everyday You lived your life with meaning and with a smile upon your face A world that was foil of happiness is now an empty place People say that only time will heal a broken heart But just like me and you it has been torn apart I know you're at peace now And at a place where you're free Meet me at the pearly gates When heaven calls for me
