Martin in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. His journey ended peacefully after an extended illness on Tuesday, March 20,2018. Doug as everyone called him was a very kind, sweet and gentle man who had a smile that would melt your heart. He graduated from Riverdale High School in 1982. After graduation he worked for Better- Built Aluminum where he worked faithfully for twenty nine years and later worked for Nissan in Smyrna under Yates until his health begin to fail. Doug loved the Lord and was very strong in his walk with Christ. He was a faithful member of Olive Branch Church. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching basketball and footbaI1; he was a true Dallas Cowboy fan. Doug was a very selfless individual. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He would do whatever he could, whenever he could to help someone. The love that he had for everyone was shown through his caring and compassionate ways. He will be truly missed. Douglas is preceded in death by his parents, Willie P. Martin and Johnnie Mai Akins; and brother, Freddie Martin. His memories will forever be treasured by his loving and devoted wife of thirty years, Sonia Akins; precious daughter, Celeka C. Akins; sisters, Laura (Robert) Alexander, Bessie Williams, Clara (Thomas) Holman and Kim Akins, all of Murfreesboro; brothers, Charles (Zunnia) Akins of Phoenix, Arizona, Johnny Ray Akins of Germany, Terrance (Sabina) Martin of Winchester, Tennessee, Ken Martin and Willie P. Martin Jr. both of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; devoted father-in-law, Acie Lawrence; brother-in-law, Kenneth Lawrence; sisters-in-law, Donna (Larry Sr.) Abrams of Forrest, Virginia, Sandra Lawrence, Regina Lawrence of Antioch, Tennessee, Deborah Hughes, Trina (Ricky) Smith and Tamika (Tom) Jones of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; aunts, MattieL.
