Sister Georgia Lee Batey was born to the late Will and Annie Batey on May 18,1922 in Smyrna, Tennessee. She made her transition on February 4, 2010, at St. Thomas Hospital (Alive Hospice Unit) in Nashville, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Louise Wilder and Bobbie J. Batey; two sons, Robert Gooch and Patrick Batey; three sisters, Eleanor Batey, Annie P. Martin and Mattie Pratt; and two brothers, Will C. Batey and Rufus Batey.

She was educated in the Rutherford County School System. She savored and had a passion for cooking. She worked as a cook at the old Seward Air Force Base. While serving many meals there, she earned the nickname, "Cookie". She later then retired after 18 years. Also while serving her community, she was awarded two Certificates of Appreciation for her outstanding service and contributions to our community. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour at an early age under the pastorship of Reverend Jordan at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She then later joined the Bethel Misssionary Baptist Church Family, under the pastorship of Reverend Freddie B. Carpenter, Jr. She served as a member of the Caring and Sharing Ladies Ministry.

Georgia Lee Batey leaves to cherish her precious memories: a very loving and devoted daughter, Joyce (Willie) McCullough and two sons, Bobby and Roger (Chinita) Batey; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a very dear and devoted God-daughter, Faye Hanserd; a devoted caregiver, Arlene Smith; three very devoted friends, Georgia M. Smith, Lucille Miles, Almeda Dunaway and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
