Today, we celebrate the life of our beloved Robert who ascended to Glory on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 to be with our Lord and Savior. While we mourn the loss of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, we know he is at peace with God. We commemorate his remarkable life and are thankful he impacted so many. He will truly be missed.
Robert W. Lyons, Sr. was born on March 20, 1938 to Dallas and Irene Lyons in Shelbyville, Tennessee. He joined the Brandon Chapel Baptist Church at an early age. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He and his sisters (Eula and Mary) sang as a trio at Brandon Chapel Baptist Church as well as other churches. The Lyons Family moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1953. In 1956, he married Naomi Salter. This union of Holy matrimony was blessed with three children, Robert Jr., Linda and Brenda. He later married Pauline Holmes Ellis.
Robert worked as the Head Chef at The May Company Department Store for 25 years in Cleveland, Ohio. He prepared and was responsible for the food of 700 people each day. Robert especially liked to prepare short ribs. He was a Deacon at The Greater New Canaan Baptist Church for many years. Robert was a soloist as well as a dedicated choir member.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Reverends Dallas and Irene Lyons; wives, Naomi Salter-Lyons and Pauline Holmes Ellis- Lyons; sister, Mary Kinney; a host of brother and sisters-in-law, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He leaves to cherish his memories his three children, Robert Jr., of Byron, Georgia, Linda (Charles) Willis of Columbus, Ohio and Brenda (Bennie) Stovall of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Marcus Willis, Brandon Stovall and Bennie Stovall Jr., sister, Eula Hood of Cleveland, Ohio; a host of beautiful aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special friends.
