Obituary:
Charley would sing "Father, I stretch my hands to thee, No other help I know; If thou withdraw thyself from me, Ah! whither shall I go?" But after a godly life the Father stretched out his hands to Deacon Charley O'Neal King, Jr., on Tuesday, August 2,2016 at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital. After so much suffering, the Lord took from him all pain and brought him to Heaven, where there is no pain and no more burdens, to the land of Glory as He has promised all the faithful
believers.

Charley was born April 10, 1933 in Rutherford County to the late Charley O'Neal King, Sr. and Rose Lee Walker. Charley was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary E. Vaughter King; son, Nelson Wayne King; sister, Mary Lou Pearcy; and brothers, John Ford, James A. King, Sr. and Eddie L. King.

Charley received his education in the Rutherford County School System. He united in holy matrimony to the late Mary E. Vaughter King on September 7, 1955.

Charley was a devoted and faithful member of Cedar Grove Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Treasurer and President of the Usher Board. He was a member of the Cumberland Association's Ushers and Deacons' Union. Charley served his country as a member of the United States Air Forces. He continued to serve as a Culinary Supervisor at the Veteran Administration, and after 35 years he retired. Also he worked at the City Cafe, and Rutherford County Adult Activity Center, where he received many awards. He was a member of the American Legion and the Mason Lodge # 12. Charley loved listening to music, taking and sharing pictures with others.

Charley leaves to cherish precious gifts to his children, Neal, Ezzard (Deborah) King, Jeffery (Cindy) King and Marilyn Jefferson (Louis); his devoted grandchildren, Danielle, Regan, Kaitlin, Madison and Kristen King; godchild, Janetra Vaughn; brothers, Harry, Larry, Alonzo, James, Johnny and Willie King; sisters, Everlene (Leroy) Scarborough and Jeanette (Robert) Clayton; devoted sister-in-law, Sarah (James) Harding; brother-in-law and co-worker, Jesse Robert Vaughter; aunts, Bessie Mae Smith and Margaret Malone; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
