Obituary:
Vanessa Elaine Knox Akins was born on July 11, 1956 in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee to the late Frances E. Knox Smith and Jimmy L. Chaney.

Vanessa affectionately known as "Sunshine" received her formal education from Bradley and Hobgood Elementary Schools, and Central and Riverdale High Schools. Vanessa went on to obtain her certification in nursing as well as obtaining a CDL certification from truck driving school. Her love of her life was nursing and taking care of sick people.

Vanessa loved and lived life to the fullest.

Vanessa met the Love of her Life Clifton Akins and they enjoyed travelling and would eat at every location along the way. She was instrumental in helping Clifton to understand the importance of giving your life to Christ and getting baptized.

Vanessa was a member of First Baptist Church and when Clifton got baptized she advised Pastor McCarroll that she would be attending church with her husband.

When Clifton went to meet his Lord and Savior, Vanessa returned back to her home church and served on the Usher Board until her health begin to fail.

Vanessa leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Quanna Dalemetric Knox and Ronetta Michele Knox whom she loved dearly; grandchildren, Serena Knox, Tamaria Knox, TeAndrea Bigsby, Tattorria Howse, Tytionna Knox, TaKiya Knox and Josiah Knox; siblings, Barbara (William) Butler, Martha Knox, Wilma Batey, Darryl Smith, Trent (LaRue) Chaney, Elmer Ray Smith, Annie Marie Smith and Mildred Williams - Bey; her aunts, Addie L. Lyons, Stella M. Daniels, Lois Knox, Carrie Cannon and Dorothy Smith; uncles, Frank Chaney and George Chaney; devoted friends of the immediate family, Natron Lillard, Douglas Merritt, Eugene Martin and Jackie Mears; beloved dog, CoCo; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
