Life Legacy

Douglass Straress Burris, 53, formerly of Beloit, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Doug was born on April 28, 1962 in Jackson, Tennessee the son of Joe and Sinnie (Burris) Yancey. He married Mary Ann White on July 12, 1986 in Beloit, Wisconsin. Doug was employed as a maintenance engineer for the school district of Beloit, retiring in 2001.

Doug was the founder of the National Corporate Prayer For Schools. He was named the OIC Man of the year. Doug was a minister for Regency Nursing Home. He enjoyed outreach ministry and mentoring special needs children. He was a basketball coach and advocate for youth development, and was an ambassador of God's love, grace, and mercy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Robert Yancey, Greg Burris, and Donald Yancey, four sisters, Judy Yancey, Diane Yancey, Syvella Womble, and Brenda Yancey, maternal grandparents, Theodore and Brucetta Burris, four uncles, Jobie Yancey, Perry Curry, Clifford Burris, and Theodore Burris, Jr., spiritual parents, Susan Roman and Pastor Earnest K. Roman, and special friend Olivera Hanserd.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Burris, four sons, Shane, Douglas, Benjamin, and Jeremiah Burris, three daughters, Martha, Alexis, and Summer Burris, granddaughter, Gracelyn C. Duncan, five brothers, Michael Willie (Shelley) Yancey, Joe Lee (Cindy) Harvey, Joseph (Shorre) Yancey, Ervin Burris, and Peter Yancey, five sisters, Alice Yancey, Bobby (Larry) Beals, Ann McClinton, Patsy Thurman, and Stephanie (Larry) White, three honorary grandchildren, Sophia Davis, T'Ziyon Carter, Josiah Jackson, godson, Brandon Murray, goddaughter, Sammy Zvolkman, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
