Mrs. Gladys Virginia Alsup Alexander was born June 9, 1935 in Rutherford County, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to Reverend Wayman and Mrs. Sarah Lyons Alsup. She departed this life at St. Thomas Rutherford County Hospital on Sunday, September 13, 2015.

She was preceded in death by both parents, Reverend Wayman and Sarah Alsup; her husband, Jimmy Lee Alexander; a daughter, Betty Jo Alexander; sisters, Lorene Alsup Watkins, Ruth Evelyn Alsup and Amanda Ruth McCullough; brothers, Wayman Jr., Eddie and Deacon Wardell Alsup.

Gladys professed her hope in Jesus Christ at an early age at Brandon View Missionary Baptist Church, now God's House of Restoration.She was educated in the Rutherford County School System. Mother Alexander, better known as "The Dean," served as a faithful and devoted church pianist, choir director and choir member, Deaconess, Finance Trustee, the Mother's Board, and a loyal member of the singing group, 'The Golden Tones.' She was dedicated to God, her family, and the community. She was known for her famous "Egg Pies", "her dynamic singing voice", and "her beautiful smile!"

In her loving memory she leaves to cherish two devoted sons, Jimmy Leon (Pansy) Alexander and Leonard (Betty) Alexander; four devoted daughters, Joyce (Walter) Tubbs, Janice (Michael) Walker, Jackie (Pat) James, and Linda (Allen) McCroskey; four devoted sisters, Selma Collier, Fay (Pastor Robert C.) Verge, Samella Pinkerton and Lillie F. Batts; a host of devoted grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family and Nana's 'little Body-Guard and
Helper,' Christian Akins.
