She was educated in the Rutherford County School System, and studied at Tennessee A&I (Tennessee State University), before eventually attending Riverside Nursing School to study and enter the field of nursing. She worked at Riverside Hospital, Meharry Hubbard Hospital, and finally at the Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital for over 25 years, from which she retired. After her retirement, her expertise as a nurse came in handy as she helped to care for her siblings when they were sick.
Mother Griffin was a Christian women, and at a young age, she joined the Original Church of God in Rockvale, Tennessee. Later she united with the East Castle Street Original Church of God in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and she was a faithful member there and served on the Mothers Board until the time of her death.
She married Josh Griffin in 1973, and they lived in Murfreesboro until he died in 1985.
In addition to her parents, her siblings that preceded her in death were her sisters, Mrs. Etha Jane Henderson, Mrs. Lydia J. Glanton, Mrs. Willie Virginia J. Alexander, Mrs. Rubye Clara J. Rodgers, Mrs. Annie J. Crosby and Mrs. Odahlia J. Fox.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her brother, Mr. John Frank Jackson Sr. of Huntsville, Alabama; nieces, Mrs. Thelma R. Lawson of Goodlettsville, Tennessee and Mrs. Marva Wynn of Old Hickory, Tennessee; nephews, Mr. Lorenzo (Margie) B. New Jr. of Crestview, Florida and Mr. John Frank Jackson Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia; cousins, Mrs. Thelma Woodson of Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Jackson (Karen) A. Winsett of Lenexa, Kansas and Mrs. Lula King of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; special friends, Ms. Judy Daniels, Mrs. Daisy Davis, Mrs. Fannie Randolph and Mrs. Sammie Carolyn Wade; and other great nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. |
