Willie Nathaniel "Tutter" Smith was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to Mrs. Mattie Geraldine Alsup and the late Mr. Willie Smith on June 19, 1948. He transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

He served in the United States Army and received two Purple Hearts for his outstanding service during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Willie was employed as a work leader for 29 years
in Environmental services at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, until his retiring in 2009.

Willie was united in holy matrimony to Johnnie Avant, who preceded him in death on August 26, 2011.

He attended Antioch Primitive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death also by his brother, Stanley Smith; grandparents,Herbert and Katherine Harris; and step-father, Eddie Alsup.

Willie leaves behind to cherish his unconditional love and memories, an extremely loving and devoted mother, Mattie Geraldine Alsup; son, Eddie (Dorothy) Smith; two daughters, Hazel Franklin, and Tiffany Smith; four grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren; also left behind to see him again two brothers, Raymond Alsup, and Jeff Odom; two sisters, Eugenia Hathaway, and Linda Franklin; two loving and devoted aunts, Helen Norman, and Annie Sue Lawrence; two devoted nephews, Damien Smith and Cutrell Smith; devoted uncle, Bobby Fletcher; devoted cousin, Annie Sue Johnson; mother-in-law, Louise Avant; two step-children; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; extended family, The Alsups'; devoted friends, Demetrius Jones; Bryd and Faye Haynes; Deloris McCullough, Ann Hook, Jean Smith; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
