Obituary:
Ella Jane Overton was born in Rutherford County, Tennessee on February 9, 1927 to the late Rufus and Ella Brandon and departed this life on Sunday, May 19, 2013.

She was educated in the Rutherford County School System and received her Bachelor's degree from A&I State (TSU). She was an educator in Haywood and Rutherford counties for 41 years.

Ella was married to the late Houston Overton, Sr.

Mother Overton came to the Lord at any early age. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a member, and later became the President of the Mother's Board, a member of the Hospitality Committee, and President of the Bereavement and General Mission Committees. Mother Overton and her constant companion (Houston Sr.) were inseparable. They travelled across the United States in their Ford truck and camper. Perhaps you might hear of her being referred to as everyone's "Algebra or Math Teacher" or in her words, "A strict disciplinarian."

Ella was also preceded in death by four brothers: William, Frank, Jim, and Grady Brandon; and four sisters: Addie Mattie Monroe Brandon, Irene Brandon, Louise Crawley, and Rachel Hopson.

Mother Overton leaves to cherish her memory: children, Houston Jr. (Mary) and Timothy (Diane) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Tasha Overton, Janina (Reynaldo) Hill, Rochelle Adams, and Lincoln (Vivian) Adams; nine great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends; devoted niece, Dorothy Brandon; and devoted nephew, Byron Brandon.
