Richard Lee Muse was born on September 27, 1941 to Fannie Muse Gant and Thomas Crawford. He transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on March 21, 2013.

He received his education in the public schools of Rutherford County, and graduated from Holloway High School in 1960. Richard furthered his education by attending Tennessee State University.

Richard became a Mason of Prince Hall #12 in March of 1967.

He was baptized under the leadership of Reverend O.C. McClain in 1950 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served as an advisor of the Young People's Gospel Chorus. He also served on the Usher's Board, as a Sunday School Teacher, a choir member, on the Nurses' Guild and on the Deacon's Board. He united with Silver Springs Missionary Baptist Church in 1983. He has served as a Sunday School Superintendent, he organized the first Vacation Bible School, continued to teach Sunday school, was Chairman of the Deacon's Board, (he was the oldest serving Deacon), he served as Treasurer, Advisor of Educational Department and the Nurses' Guild Instructor.

Richard married Grace Ann Posey on June 14, 1980.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Fannie Gant; father, Thomas Crawford; grandmothers, Frances Muse, who raised him, and Julia Crawford; and grandfathers, Daniel Muse and Sam Crawford.

Richard leaves to cherish his memories loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Grace Muse; devoted nieces, Taryn (Charles) Lillard, Rene Ellis, Belinda Ellis, and Laris Frazier; three devoted nephews, Kelvin Posey, whom he helped raise, Samuel Ellis, and Harold (Erika) Rucker; devoted great nieces, Rokeita Henry, Markeshia Ellis, Renisha Brown, and Shekyla Moore; devoted great nephews, Johnathan Brooks, whom he helped raise, Marcus Ellis, Derrington Frazier, Alexander Frazier, and Keenan Ellis; one devoted great - great niece, and four devoted great - great nephews; a very devoted great -great nephew, Jacari Ellis; devoted cousins, John Daniel, Jimmie (Jan), Andrew (Pearl) and Raymond Muse, Mary B. Muse, and Juanita Williams; aunts, Dovie Brown, Mary J. Patton, and Samuella Crawford; special friends of the family, Hanson Obu, Dionne Williams, Rudolph Woodberry, Frank Marable, and Robert Henry; and very devoted friends, Deacon Jerry Cheers and Deacon James Chapman; a host of other family and friends.
