Mrs. Jannie Mai (Marable) Brown was born on September 10, 1912 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late- Alfred and Emma Peoples Marable. She departed this life on July 8, 2009 at Dignity Care Home in Flint, Michigan. Jannie was a life-long resident of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County. She stayed in Flint, Michigan for the last twelve years under the loving care of her daughter-in-law and grandson when she became ill.

Jannie attended the schools of Rutherford County. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro for most of her adult life, where she was a church Mother, taught Sunday school and served as assistant Junior Department superintendent.

She was married to Ira E. Brown in 1939 until his death in 1989. She had one son Herman Marable, Sr. who died in 1995.

During life she was a active member of the Progressive Garden Club, enjoyed cooking, fishing with her husband, and spending time with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory: grandson Judge Herman Marable, Jr., daughter-in-law Iris Butler Marable, both of Flint, MI, daughter-in-law Elnora Brown of Columbus, OH., step-grandson Ira Brown III of Memphis, TN, step-granddaughter Marcella Priest of Louisville, KY, and many devoted nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives.

Jannie was also preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Emma Peoples Marable, son, Herman Marable, Sr., stepsons Ira Brown, Jr., Lawrence Brown, sisters, Mrs. Mildred Mc Adoo, Mrs. Margaret Tillage, Mrs. Mattie Russell, and Mrs. Emma Lee Mosby.
