The Hathaway Family Cemetery, Little Hope

Joe Miller Hathaway, Sr., 69, separated from this life on December 31, 2012; at home with family in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born April 22, 1943 in the Little Hope community of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Butler Hathaway and Roberta Hathaway; his brothers, Steve Allen Hathaway, Sr., John L. Hathaway Sr., and James William (Jeanette) Hathaway, Sr.; grandson, Jerry Lee Hathaway, Jr.; daughters-in-law, Bonita Hathaway and Linda Hathaway.

Joe Hathaway was educated in the Rutherford and Davidson County School Systems: Rocky Fork, Little Hope School, and briefly at Cameron School. He was a retired State of Tennessee employee at Tennessee Preparatory School for 33 1/2 years as a food service supervisor and cook.

On March 29, 1960, he joined in holy matrimony to Willie Mae Hunter. He cherished her for 52 years and their children: Joe (Sherry) Hathaway, Jr., JoAnn Hathaway, Jerry Lee (Gala) Hathaway, Sr., Roger (Evonne) Hathaway, Sr., William (Debbie Burns) Hathaway, Sr., and Charles Allen (Leslie Davis) Hathaway.

He also leaves to cherish his memories grandchildren, Quintessa (Kerry Hervey) Hathaway of Little Rock, Arkansas, Joshua (Semekia) Hutcherson, Sr., Janie (Wayman Jenkins) Hathaway, Quantez Hutcherson, NeKeisha (Keith) Buchanan, Jeremy (Porshia Shepard) Hathaway, Terrell Hathaway, Kayla Poole, Roger Edward Hathaway, Jr., Ashley L. Claybrooks, Kendra Hathaway, Desiree Hathaway, Dakota Hathaway, William Hathaway, Jr., Patrick Hathaway, Anderas Hathaway, Shana Hathaway, Jerrell Hathaway, Ty Allen Hathaway, Collyn Hathaway, Jennifer (Theo Homer) DeRorre, Latisha Spence, Thomas Spence, and Marquisha Spence; great-grandchildren, Jetavion Jenkins, Journey Hathaway, Kedrick Patton, Joshua Huctherson, Jr., London Jenkins, T'Khia Watkins, Adiyah Hathaway, Amyah Hathaway, Maurice Hathaway, Terrell Hathaway, Jr., Berry Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Destinee DeRorre, Sania Homer, Tavius Homer, Waymon Jenkins, Jr., Kashana Jenkins, Amya Williams, Nick Thompson, Joshua Thompson, and Kaylei Spence; siblings, Alberta (Samuel) Hambright, Margaret (sister-in-law), Charles Roy (Deborah) Hathaway, Alice (widow), McKinley (Jacquelyn) Hathaway, Leon (Patricia) Hathaway, Sr., Nancy (Harold) Frazer, Deborah (Michael) Hawkins, Donald Hathaway, Theresa Hathaway, Tina (Dale) Malone, and Christopher (Serena) Hathaway, Sr.; 43 nieces and nephews; extended family members, friends, and additional loved ones.

In 1970, he put on Christ at South Hill Church of Christ, currently Hart Street. He worked in the Church as a Deacon, bus driver, preaching at the nursing home, and leading the Lord's Supper at Foster Avenue Church of Christ. Throughout his life, he was known as a hardworking man, and provider for his family. He loved to cook, spend time with family, travel, as well as, talk about God and politics.

We were truly blessed to have had Joe Miller Hathaway, Sr. in our presence. He will be missed by many.
