James Neal McKnight was born September 16, 1920, to the late George and LeeAnna McKnight. He was blessed to be raised by his grandparents, Pap & Sis McAdoo.

James Neal McKnight aka, Daddy, Pops, Granddaddy, Uncle James, Cousin Neal, Mr. James, Crutch, Nealy Bob, but out of all the names he was called, none was more precious than the one that called him home; SON.

He was a man that loved God first and family second. He had a smile that warmed many hearts. This is why we choose to Celebrate his life. He will live on within his family and the many friends whose lives he touched during his 92 years of life.

He left to be with God on December 8, 2012 at Northside Health Care Center. He was a faithful member of Bradley Creek Missionary Baptist Church where is sang in the Male Choir. No matter how he felt all week, come Sunday morning he wanted to be at church.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Lizzie Mai McKnight, and Lucressie Hicks McKnight; granddaughter, Veronica Chenay Woods; granddaughter-in-law, Ashley McKnight; brother, Thomas (Hoot); sister- in-law, Rowena McKnight; sister, Daisy Sanders; two nieces, Dorothy Lyons, and Betty Randolph; devoted cousins, John Allen McAdoo, and Willie B. Gooch.

In 1943, he was united in holy matrimony to Lizzie Mai Lyons, and to this union 6 children were born.
He often spoke of the hard times they had, and then he would smile and say, "but they were good times."

Our Daddy was a hardworking man.
You could tell by his rough callused hands
He worked so hard from dawn till dusk.
In God above he put his trust.
His sons work by his side, and
In his eyes, his daughters saw pride.
He always did the best he could
To see that life for his family was good.

He leaves a devoted family to celebrate his life four sons, and two daughters, Rufus, Buster (Ida), James (Elma), Henry Paul (Carolyn), Birdie McKnight and Patricia (Robert) Marable); and step daughter, Bessie Francis Russell. His memory will live on through fifteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; four nephews; six nieces; and a host of cousins and friends.

Families are like quilts...lives pieced together.

He later married Lucressie Hicks. During this union he helped raise a host of step children; grandchildren; and great grandchildren.

Celebration of the Life

Weep not for me though I am gone into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long upon my soul's sweet flight.

I am at peace; my soul's at rest there is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed for all those many years.

There is no pain; I suffer not, the fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts, in your memory I live on.

Remember not my fight for breath, remember not the strife.
Please do not dwell upon my death, but CELEBRATE MY LIFE.

He leaves to cherish 15 grandchildren, Melissa Gary, William Franklin McKnight, Daphne Martin, Brenda McKnight, Gregory A. McKnight, Thelisia Simmons, Jammie McKnight, LaTrenda Watkins, Tonya Dismukes, Tanya Stafford, LaKrista Hollmes, Jarvis Watkins, Cassondra Hill, Andrew McKnight, and Justin Watkins; devoted god children, Mr. Luther Greer, Ms. Nancy Blakemore (Sonny), Mrs. Stella May Daniels, Mr. Walter Patterson, and Mrs. Liz Summers; devoted friends, Mr. Larry McElroy, Mr. Buford and Mrs. Nancy Christopher, Mr. Chris Greer, Mr. Wade "Red" and Mrs. Pearl Markum, Mrs. Claudie Mullinax, Mr. Wilson "Brother" Martin, Mr. Dwight Vinson, Mary F.
