Mittie Taylor was born to Molly Taylor on October 26, 1919 in Woodbury (Cannon County), Tennessee. She received her education in the Cannon County Public School System. She married Lester Alexander in January 1941. They were blessed with two children, Lester Jr. and Teresa. Mittie was baptized into Christ in early adulthood by Brother A. J. Vanleer. Through her influence she later converted her husband. They initially attended the Water Street congregation in Woodbury. When they moved to Nashville, they placed membership at Lawrence Avenue. Several years ago she placed her membership at Hart Street, where she attended with her daughter as long as her health permitted.

Sister Mittie worked as a caregiver for over 30 years. She enjoyed helping and serving others. Although she was a person of frugality, she freely gave to others from a generous and compassionate heart.

Sister Mittie was a person of sober thinking and wise judgment. Family members frequently came to her for advice! She was a great mother, a loving and devoted wife and a good friend! She was also an excellent cook. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting.

Sister Mittie subscribed to a tough and uncompromising philosophy of life; If you were going to spend any time in her house, you were going to follow her rules. She didn't take no stuff! You didn't darken her door with beer on your breath! Nevertheless, she exhibited a wonderful sense of humor, which enabled her to not only laugh at / with others, but also to laugh at herself! She loved her husband and her children very deeply! She didn't really have a green thumb, but she did manage to grow beautiful flowers with the assistance of her doting and protective husband!

Sister Mittie Taylor Alexander quietly departed this life on Friday evening, May 18, 2012, surrounded by loving family members. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her son, and six siblings.

Sister Mittie Taylor Alexander is survived by loving and devoted daughter, Teresa Alexander; sister, Tiny Jenkins; devoted nieces, Ila Bunch, Margaret Owens, Genola Sanders, Gina Greenlee, and Sue Alexander; sister-in-law, Amanda Sanders; cousin and friend, Pearl Steward; devoted cousin, Larry Edmondson; childhood friends, Nannie Mae Foutch and Ruth Lillard; Christian families at Hart Street, Lawrence Avenue, and Auburn Hills Churches of Christ; and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
