Mrs. Sarah Alberta "Bert" Rucker was born in 1936 in Murfreesboro, TN. Sarah attended schools in Rutherford County. She was employed by the Metro Board of Education, where she was an educator for 33 years until her retirement.

Sarah was married to Joe C. Rucker, Sr. for 26 years and to this union, seven children were born. She was a devoted and loving mother who always made sure her children were given the best care and spiritual guidance. At an early age, she was baptized at Johnson Road Church of Christ, later continuing her fellowship at Scott Avenue Church of Christ and Jackson Street Church of Christ.

Sarah departed this life on November 26, 2011 at St. Thomas Hospital. Her husband, Joe C. Rucker, Sr., parents, Joe W. and Anna B. McCrary , siblings, Maggie McCrary, Horace McCrary, James McCrary, Dorothy McKnight and Mary Lou Anderson preceded her in death.

Sarah leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Joe C. (Harriet) Rucker, Jr.,
Kenneth E. Rucker; five daughters, Deborah J. McCrary, Torye Y. Egedegbe, Cynthia Y. Rucker, Delnethia L. Rucker, Patrice (Jeran) Moore; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Sarah is survived by her uncle, Henry B. Burns; aunt, Bethane Frazier; sisters-in-law, Alice Firoul, Patricia Rucker, Lillie McCrary and Bessie (Robert) Hester; a host of nieces and nephews; devoted cousin, Ida Lue Miller; devoted friends, Homer and Erma Eddins, Linda Washington, Jean and Louise Gibson, James and Jackie Jackson, Wanda (Jarvis) Jackson, Sis Pye, John and Ruby Moore, residents of Shephardwood subdivision; and the members of Jackson Street Church of Christ, Scott Avenue Church of Christ and Highway 231 Church of Christ.
