Visitation: 11:00 a.m. - 12 noon on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 Scales & Sons Funeral Home Memorial Service: 12 noon on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 Scales & Sons Funeral Home Obituary: Herman Leon Burton was born on September 6, 1929 in Weaver, Indiana to Emma Smith and Arnold Burton. He departed this life on September 5, 2009at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. He was the seventh of eight children. Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death. He leaves behind a faithful wife, Marguerite Patterson Burton, of almost 60 years and daughters, Pamela Stewart and Anita Burton-Heck. His daughters Sylvia Watkins and Diane Gray preceded him in death.
Herman was a well-respected businessman in Indiana and in Murfreesboro. He served on various church committees, civic, and political organizations such as the NAACP, Bradley Academy, and Wee Care Daycare.
Herman will always be remembered for his loving compassion for others, his generosity and his wit. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by a brother, Paul (Pauline) Burton, sister Georgia Chandler, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. |
